Old School History
Researched and written by Bob Sayer, and launched on April 19, 2008, this book is over 260 pages, in a coffee table format (10" X 13") with spiral binding. It contains first person accounts of school and town life, school board records, newspaper clippings, photographs, and memories of principals, teachers, and students. There are pictures on every page.
Since the school was such an important part in town life, the Mahone Bay Old School book is really a history of the town from 1914 as well, especially in the early years. More than 1400 names are listed in the index, to help find references to more than three generations of Mahone Bay area families, as well as former teachers and schoolmates.
The book sells for $35, tax included. Proceeds from the sale of books beyond the cost of publication will go towards on-going projects to refurbish the historic old building and preserve it for community use.
